Installation
Our Fire Door Kit is intended for installation on hollow, paneled, semi-solid and solid wood doors in accordance with provincial, state and federal fire and building codes to upgrade the fire protection rating of the door to twenty minutes.

Tools for Installation
  1. Screwdriver - Robertson type O
  2. Measuring tape
  3. Hammer
  4. 1/16" Hole Puncher or drill bit
  5. Marker
  6. Shear (power recommended)
  7. Optional: Chisel
  8. Optional: Grinder/Sender
Installation Instructions
  1. Select the side of the door to which the Door Cover Plate shall be applied.
  2. Disassemble and remove all locks, latches, door viewers (peepholes), etc.
  3. If the clearance between the top of the door and the frame is less than 1/8"(3mm), plane off max. 1/8" (3mm) of the top edge of of the door, Fig. 4.
  4. Use the existing door as a template. Apply Door Cover Plate, Component (A),to the door, and using a marker transfer the door size to the Door Cover Plate.
  5. Using a marker, mark Door Cover Plate 1/16" (2mm) smaller than the actual width of the door, from each side. Fig. 5.
  6. Use a Power shear or shear to trim the marked edges of the Door Cover Plate, Component (A). Fig. 5.
  7. Apply Door Cover Plate - Component (A) to the face of the door , leaving 1/16" (2mm) clearance from the edge of the door.
  8. Measure and prepunch guideholes 1/2" (12mm) from the bottom edge of the door and 4"(100mm) apart. Measure and prepunch guideholes in the middle of the flange of the Door Cover Plate 4 "(100mm) apart. Measure and prepunch guideholes 1/2" (12mm) from the vertical edges of the door 4"(100mm) apart over entire length of the door. Fig. 6.
  9. To attach Door Cover Plate to the door fasten Screws-Component (C) into the guideholes as shown in Fig. 6.
    WARNING : DO NOT OVERTIGHT THE SCREWS: HEADS MAY BRAKE!
  10. Drill out hole(s) in the Door Cover Plate - Component (A),to match with the existing bore diameter(s) of the latching and locking device(s) of the door. Fig. 7.
  11. Apply Lock Reinforcement Bracket - Component (B) to the other side of the door, Fig. 8
    NOTE:
    1. Lock Reinforcement Bracket shall be applied over the lock with the POSITIVE LATCHING DEVICE ONLY.
    2. Lock Reinforcement Bracket may be installed flush with the stile of the door by chiseling out the thickness of the bracket from the stile of the door.
  12. Install Lock Reinforcement Bracket Component (B),prepunch and fasten it with Screws-Component(C), Fig. 9.
  13. Drill out a hole in the Lock Reinforcement Bracket Component (B) to match with the existing bore diameter. Fig. 10.
  14. Reinstall the latch and fasten the latch plate back to the door.
  15. Apply small amounts of Silicon Putty to all edges of the Door Cover Plate and Lock Reinforcement Bracket. Fig. 11.
  16. Optional: Screw Heads may be hidden using the following methods:
    1. Apply a moulding of your choice as shown in Fig. 12.
    2. Using a Grinder, grind off a maximum of 1/32" (1mm) off the Screw Heads and apply Filler Putty as shown in Fig. 13.
  17. Reassemble all the hardware.
Storange and Handling Advice
  • Retrofit 20 Minutes Fire Door Kits shall not be exposed to moisture during transportation or storage. Use protective coverings to protect Retrofit 20 minutes Fire Door Kits from dirt, water and abuse but allow for air circulation under and around the stack.
  • Do not subject Retrofit 20 Minutes Fire Door Kits to extreme heat/cold and/or humidity. Prolonged exposure may cause damage. Buildings where temperature and humidity are controlled provide the best storage facilities.
  • White fireproofed coating on Door Cover Plate and Lock Reinforcement Bracket is fragile, HANDLE IT WITH CARE.
  • Retrofit Fire Door Kits should be lifted and carried when being moved, not dragged across one another.
